This conceptual paper explores the long term and unacknowledged existence of the boundaryless career within the institutional setting of the hotel industry. Using an auto-ethnographic lens, Shelagh's experiences as a former senior executive employed within international five star hotels are analysed to illustrate how a largely conventional career in hotel management fulfils many of the attributes of a boundaryless career. This paper seeks that to show that the 'boundaryless career' is not a relatively modern concept. It has in fact been a feature of the hotel management career over the last century.
