Since British settlers landed in 1788, Aboriginal sites in the area around Port Jackson (now Sydney Harbour) have been commented upon and recorded. Unfortunately, during the building of Sydney and its suburbs, unknown numbers of sites were destroyed and disturbed before they could be recorded. The impact on sites came (and still comes) from many different activities. Despite these destructive activities, recent research and cultural resource management projects,1 as well as recordings by other interested persons, demonstrate that many sites stil1 exist around Port Jackson.
