Geographic Information Systems Studies Transportation Systems and Logistics Infrastructure Maintenance and Monitoring

Abstract

Over the past five years Seneca County, Ohio, developed a plan to use ESRI's (Redlands, California) ArcView GIS for managing its transportation infrastructure. The major objective was to better use available resources and, at the same time, improve the maintenance of traffic signs, bridges, guardrails, and culverts. Although financial resources are limited, the county decided that the implementation of a transportation GIS based on ArcView GIS, together with asset management, will lead to significant savings in personnel and operating costs.
