This paper is based on the keynote address that was given in July 2013 at the 17th Asian Region Association for Home Economics in Singapore. The focus of the presentation took a unique approach by using my personal situation to address the past, present and future of the profession. It began with the brief presentation of my personal and professional background to show the appeal of the profession to an individual who works outside the home economics profession. It then describes the profession’s values, philosophy, and the fundamentals that have guided me in the past and will continue to guide me in the future. The next section addresses the role of home economics in current societal issues. Finally, the paper addresses how I positioned myself in my chosen field to enhance financial well-being of individuals and families, as well as the critical role that home economics educators play in the sustainable future of the profession.
