This chapter is based upon inscriptions, many fragmentary, dating from the late 4th through the early 7th centuries CE. Most are from Christian gravestones, but the author have included some of the few secular or official documents from the same period, where they include personal names. At Corinth the gravestones that survive display certain basic information: always the name and almost always words, phrases and symbols that emphasize the Christianity of the deceased. The 662 fragments of inscriptions that the author has studied represent the achievements and aspirations of a small but relatively prosperous sub-group of Late Roman and Early Byzantine society at Corinth. Keywords:Christian gravestones; Corinth; early Byzantine society; late Roman; personal names
