To provide a better understanding of teens’ money, this study investigated two sources of teens’ income: jobs and allowances. In particular, we examined (1) how various socio-demographic variables were related to different sources of teens’ income, (2) whether the source of income affected the types of goods purchased by teens, and (3) the different reasons that may be associated with receiving allowances and related socio-demographic factors. Findings indicated that there were relationships between socio-demographic factors and income sources, that income sources did affect the types of goods purchased, and that certain socio-demographic factors were related to perceived reasons for receiving an allowance.
