In the last years, psychologists have been facing a clear reduction of the Educational Psychology field, especially at public schools. To understand this phenomena, it is necessary to question the relationship between these two areas of knowledge, by analyzing not only the performance of 'psy professionals' within the educational area throughout history, but also how their academic education and their insertion in the work market have been happening. Through interviews and analysis of publications related to the theme, it is possible to draw a picture of these professionals' performance and a map of difficulties faced by the subject, Educational Psychology, within the University. Factors such as the lack of official student teaching and the lack of consistency in the subjects added to an university tradicionalism (main focus on clinic) and an educational one (hygienist heritage) make unfeasible the establishment of a critical and social-political action approach which disscuses the failure at school and the reference to school as an institution.
