The combined intake of social (moderate) doses of alcohol and marijuana resulted in a significant incidence of severe nausea, vomiting, autonomic nervous system lability, behavioral impairment, and intense psychological distress in our subjects. Although this syndrome is self-limiting, it could be dangerous for some individuals under certain conditions, e.g. , in the presence of cardiac or central nervous system disorders. The mechanism of this interaction is not known and no treatment for the adverse reaction is available at the present time.
