ABSTRACT The objective of the present research is to study the teacher’s work at childhood education. I has tried to understand how some the men constitute themselves as teachers of education for children aged 0-6 – characterized as tipicaly female profesion. Initially, I present the theorectical and metodological aspects of my thesis, explaining my option for a socio-antropological approach. Afterwards, considering this perspective, I explain and conceptualize the central category of this study: the gender relations. From my point of view, gender relations is a social construction. It is a useful concept which allow us to understand how hierarchy, diference and power were being modelled, conformed, installed and how they act over identities and at institucional spaces. After that, I present some trajectories of profesionals and narratives of active teachers and of those who have quit the job. Based on the possibilities offered by the gender studies, I also discuss the binomial care/education, principle of childhood education, assuming that the body is in the center of the debate about children care. Finally, I deal with other elements that allow me to problematize teacher’s work at childhood education such as the body, the sexuality, playing and the moviment. This reasearch shows that teachers’work education for children aged 0-6 years is permeated by questions which envolve the masculinities and the feminilities. Besides, the conception of female profesion must be rethought because any discussion about women necessarily implies its relationships with men. It is possible to develop some actions which help to overcome some binomials like “public and private”, “male and female”, “body and mind”, among others at the kindergarten level. Although it is necessary to implement some changes in teachers’ education in order, we are councious about the limits of this purpose.
