The recent flurry of interest1,2 in the Daguerreian equipment of Wolcott and Johnson suggests that an equal interest should exist in the actual images produced by their wonderful camera. Unfortunately for the student, no clearly labelled examples of images made by their reflecting camera have been published to date. Various images have been designated as its products on the basis of circumstantial evidence; e.g. by virtue of the date or the size of the image (though there has been dispute in the literature even about that3), or Beard's label4, or by a pencilled note affixed to the back5. A specimen about which there can be no such uncertainty is reproduced as Figure 1.
