Tourism provides many youth with their first workforce experiences. This paper presents the conceptual framework and a preliminary set of results from pilot testing a mixed methods longitudinal study. The study was conducted at a Queensland theme park and captures opinions and attitudes of youth and adult employee cohorts as well as some corresponding perceptions from their supervisors. While sample size and attrition rates mitigate more conclusive analyses, initial findings indicate individual measures differ in the way they change over time, with responses to intra-group variables and organisational factors declining Preliminary trends suggest youth and mature worker socialisation needs to be more effective to leave positive legacies for tourism employment and industry image.
