A discussion on a method of evaluation of a propagation level of GSM base stations transmitter signal is presented in the paper. This is the main objective of this study. According to these authors, the signal may, to a limited extent, be potentially used for traffic modelling purposes in the majority transportation networks. In the specific discussed case the evaluation is performed using various mobile devices with Android operating system. These devices have been provided with a bespoke application allowing the required measurements to be taken. The procedure described potentially allows a design of traffic models oriented on modal split based on real space travel distributions. For this purpose, measurements of the GSM network are compared with data obtained from the GPS. The discussion has been illustrated by selected various sample characteristics of propagation measured under the constant conditions in the GSM network which was compared with the GPS track.
