Abstract

Two understudied phenomena of English 1 are intimately intertwined but, insofar as they are studied at all, are not usually related to one another. The discontinuous dependent phenomenon (DD) illustrated in (1) and the complex pre-determination (CPD) phenomenon illustrated in (2) 2 are independent.
