Frauenarchive und Frauenbibliotheken

Abstract

Concepts and realizations The german women’s libraries and archives are self help projects of the so called „new women’s movement“. They collect, classify, and redistribute women’s literature, which is neglected by traditional libraries. The conception of women’s archives corresponds with the ideas of a feminist education program and is completely different from the public libraries’ conception. The thesis shows the aims and purposes of feminist archives and libraries, as well as the circumstances of their existance. The description is illustrated by various examples. I would like to give an insight in the work of these organisations and make them more popular among librarians.
