Urban transport structure optimization based on energy consumption

Abstract

This paper introduced the concepts of transport capacity, environmental capacity, and transport mode energy consumption to develop the planning theory for sustainable transport. An urban transport structure optimization model was proposed based on energy consumption. The model was applied to study the rationality, feasibility, and practicability for Dalian City. The model included various factors influencing urban transport structure. The optimized solutions of the model not only meet the need of the travel demand derived from economic development, but also minimize the environmental influence and energy consumption. This method is available and efficient for the planning of transportation system based on sustainable development.
