Colombia is the third largest Latin-American country in population after Brazil and Mexico. According to data from the 2005 census, Colombia’s population exceeds that of Argentina. As of June 30, 2010, Colombia’s population stood at 45,511,909 inhabitants. Seventy-six percent of Colombia’s population lives in urban centers and 31 percent in the five main cities. 1 On the other hand, since 2000, Colombia contributes 5 percent to the total generation of Latin-American and Caribbean GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Colombia is a country with a relatively diverse economy. Colombia’s economy is of intermediate size, smaller than Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, and comparable to Chile’s economy but with a larger GDP, making the country the fourth largest in the region, mainly due to the severe reduction in Venezuela’s economy.
