This chapter discusses the situation of men and boys in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from the perspective of gender. Since the founding of the PRC, gender equality has been promoted by the state, and women’s rights have been ensured by law. Women’s groups, under the leadership of the All China Women’s Federation (ACWF), have been active in pursuing the cause of gender equality. The 1995 UN Beijing World Women’s Conference has contributed to rapid development in gender research and activism on issues related to women, such as women and development, violence again women, sexual harassment, imbalance in sex ratios, women’s health, trafficking in women, the gender gap in retirement age, and discrimination in education, employment, and promotions.
