Abstract This introductory chapter discusses the coverage of this book which is about the major changes in paleontology from 1970 to the present. This volume is divided into three sections. The first section examines the growth and development of some of the central ideas in modern paleobiology, the second focuses on historical and philosophical examination of themes and issues central to the last forty years of paleobiological thought, and the third offers personal reflections on careers in paleobiology by many of the scientists who shaped the paleobiological revolution.
