Abstract This chapter provides guidance for teachers who may work with children who excel at composition at an early age. These students typically benefit from a specialized curriculum that suits their emerging skills and interests. Such students present considerable challenges and opportunities for educators. Throughout the chapter, guidance is provided for establishing, organizing, auditioning, selecting, teaching, and facilitating programs for gifted composers. In addition to guidance for working with children, specific strategies are offered for working with administrators, music and non-music teachers, parents, professional composers and others interested in the composition program.
