Abstract

The article analyzes the implementation of urban renovation in France based on the expertise carried out by the members of the environs commission, the composition of which was radically changed in 1964. The experts’ work offered an arena of dialogue for a wide variety of actors with diverging interests who took part in city planning. The commission is thus viewed as a laboratory in which representations of the city were developed and conflicts were expressed.
