The population of the UK has experienced natural growth for almost all of the last century, with births exceeding deaths. However, all UK countries are projected to experience natural decrease in the future. This chapter begins by describing natural change in the population and how births and deaths shape the population’s structure. The numbers of births and deaths that take place are themselves influenced by the size and age distribution of the population. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
