This chapter examines homosexuality in France during the Age of Enlightenment. During this period, French philosophers and pornographers started to describe same-sex relations in a new way. This paved the way for discussions of female tribadism and male sodomy with some degree of regularity in social, political, and scientific circles. It also led French readers to re-examine same-sex sexuality and brought about the appearance of new sexual roles and the emergence of toleration.
