The article discusses the Pyotr Semenovich Avsenev’s approach to the study of the soul. Kiev psychologist and theologian went beyond the theological philosophy of the soul and referred not only to general psychological characteristics of the soul, but also to the “extraordinary” events, which are caused by gender, character, ethnic, physiological, pathological features of the person. The author emphasizes the importance of the study of religious and philosophical direction of psychology in the XIX century.
