The meaning and context of cultural assets inspire designers, whereas product characteristics and user needs constitute designers' reflection and evaluation. The extraction of cultural design elements, a critical design process, requires systemic implementation to effectively reflect product and design characteristics. This study investigates the design stages in Installation art design, namely, design conceptualization, extraction of cultural asset elements, and product design. Specifically, we examine how the house of quality is applied to implement the extraction of cultural asset elements and design characteristics development. Three conversion stages are involved, namely, that from converting design concept to reflecting cultural asset elements, converting cultural asset elements to product characteristics, and from product characteristics to design attributes. The water clock design of Lu Tshai of the Tang dynasty is used as a case study to investigate the conversion mechanism that assists designers in facilitating design thinking and effectiveness in design task implementation.
