Metallurgy and Cultural Artifacts Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Steels Cultural Heritage Materials Analysis

Abstract

Present work covers an study, realised by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), of the blade of the sword Tizona. In addition, radiographic techniques and Isotopic Analysis by ICP Mass Spectroscopy has been used. Obtained information reveals the manufacture process, together with geographic origin of the steel. On the other side, a kinetic model is suggested for the estimation of the age of the blade, based in the microstructural changes, occurred for long periods of time, in steels and other materials.
