Stubbs and Packard explore the particular ethical challenges for the writer of the historical screenplay via an auto-analysis of the historical mini-series ANZAC Girls (2014) of which Packard was the lead writer and producer. Placing their work in the context of new theories of history writing, as well as a reconsideration of representation in ethnography and film studies, the chapter examines how the screenwriter of ANZAC Girls negotiated and referred to a framework of truthful representation, subjectivism, the double story and ethical dramatic construction to produce screenplays that were both dramatically and commercially appropriate while also offering an ethical representation of a particular history.
