The Dramaturgy of Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance

Abstract

For over twenty years I have accompanied autobiographical therapeutic per-formances (ATP) in a variety of contexts, including drama therapy programs, group and individuals in private practice—and have also gone through the process myself. Although each journey is unique, I have observed several patterns that tend to recur, forming the basis of what I call the dramaturgy of autobiographical therapeutic performance . This chapter reflects on some of the main aspects involved in this dramaturgy, in terms of both the process, and also of the pieces created under its guidance and inspiration.
