This chapter sets an analytical framework for researching social remittances in the context of global migration. It scrutinises the shortcomings of the literature in which the debate on social remittances is embedded—studies on social transformation, migrant transnationalism, and cultural diffusion. The authors suggest a framework that draws on the existing theoretical approaches, which help to conceptualise and define the meaning of connectivity which emerges when people migrate internationally. The proposed interactive model links to the concept of glocalisation and considers remittances as material and non-material objects that transform while being transferred, and which transform the contexts of origin and reception of migrants equally. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
