This chapter explores the memories of an extended family of Bosniaks, forced to flee their homes during the 1992–1995 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Based on ethnographic fieldwork over many years and in shifting sites, the chapter captures the lived experiences of war, exile in Sweden and return, as remembered and told by three generations. The analytical focus is on the interplay of memories and individuals’ migratory experience in their search for viable homes and identities after the war. The chapter demonstrates the dynamics of post-war memory work in relation to place and the differences between generations in interpreting the war and engaging or disengaging their memories in finding new sites of attachment.
