The work Population and Landscape of Cerdagne in the Antiquity. The Iberization and Romanization of the cerdan valley corresponds to the study of natural and historic region of Cerdagne, understanding and taking it on both sides, Catalan and French, from the early Iron Age to the end of the first century BC. In this regard, although the study area is well circumscribed, the work also has implications beyond the valley, covering much of the Catalan Pyrenees. Thisis the territory occupied by the historical people of Ceretans. The research has been done in two different ways. On one hand, we proceeded to analyse all the documents of this period we could give historical data. Basically, we did the analysis of all literary sources mentioning any aspect of Ceretans, and compiled the known archaeological sites in the region; but we also analyzed two other types of data that could help us in our interpretations: the compiled of the Iberian inscriptions on rock from Cerdagne, and the analysis of paleoenvironmental studies of the Eastern Pyrenees. On the other hand, the second area of research was based on the work ongoing in different archaeological sites in the region. The first is the archeological site of Castellot de Bolvir, located in the middle of the Cerdan valley, in a tiny hill with very good strategical conditions. It consists in an settlement with precedents in the Iron Age, but in which was founded an Iberian oppidum in the beginning of the fourth century BC. Later, in the middle of the second century BC, the site is transformed in a republican praesidium, with several structural changes that affected especially the defensive system, and the creation of large multifunctional buildings. This settlement was abandoned after the civil war between Caesar and Pompey, and probably after Ceretan uprising of 39-36 BC. A second settlement, Tossal de Baltarga of Bellver de Cerdanya, is located in a hill at the beginning of cerdan plane. This place also has the same evolutionary stages that El Castellot, but with a more functional dimension focused in the territorial control. A third archeological site is the the Guilleteres d’All, a possible Roman outdoor goldmines. With all these elements we propose a thesis according to which Cerdagne have begun a process of Iberization (its own etnogenesis) from 5th-4th century BC. This thesis is sustained by the changes in settlement patterns detected at that time, economical increases, the emergence of social hierarchies, and the appearance of Iberian writing. We consider that this Ceretan population suffers the shock of Hannibal's journey, with elements of destruction that are perceived in the own territory. Finally, already under Roman rule, from the second century BC Ceretans initiate a process of integration and assimilation that lead to the final romanization. In this process the Roman army would developed an important role, especially regarding the exploitation of the territory resources, and the control of the points of communication of the axis Segre-Tet.
