Abstract

This chapter introduces the amenity migrants and describes the development of their movement into a societal phenomenon and also the knowledge about this phenomenon, focusing on its most significant manifestation - in mountain areas of the world. The chapter then outlines the key motivators and facilitators of amenity migration as well as the cultural, economic and biophysical effects of amenity migration and the little being done in response. The chapter concludes with strategic means for controlling amenity migration.
