Probabilistic and Robust Engineering Design Geotechnical Engineering and Analysis Structural Integrity and Reliability Analysis

Abstract

Many different approaches are used in structural system reliability to estimate the probability of failure. In this paper, methods to obtain the sensitivity to the distribution parameters for the different approaches are discussed. For simulation based approaches (e.g., Monte Carlo simulation, importance sampling, etc.) a new method is proposed. The method does not require generation of new samples or re-evaluation of the failure criterion. An example illustrating the method is presented.
