Abstract

Student journals are the diffusion media par excellence of the young scientist, and that is published from the student perspective. To describe the scientific production of IJMS, ANACEM and CIMEL, starting from metric variables that offer the necessary homogeneity for their comparison and that at the same time to find distinctive elements among them. A scientometric study was performed, considering as an analysis unit the articles published electronically in the period 2013-2016. The scientometric indicators were calculated using the software, Harzing's Publish or Perish 5 and using Google Scholar as database. The statistical tests included chi squared and analysis of variance simple classification, as well as the Student-Newman-Keuls test, with a significance level of less than 0.05 (95% confidence limits) always being used. The journals have received 181 citations and had an h index of 4. The analysis was made on 29 issues in which 326 articles were published, with a mean of 81.5 ± 7.33 per year. The journal with largest quantity of articles was International Journal of Medical Students with 135 (41.41%). There was a prevalence of documents written in English (n=142; 43.56%), and original investigations (n=105; 32.21%), with statistically significant differences (p< .0001), with respect to the frequency of the typologies that are published in the three journals. Manuscripts from 39 countries were published, with the countries with the greater scientific production being Chile with 101 articles, the United States with 31, and Peru with 30. There was a total of 1138 signatory authors, with the highest index of collaboration being 4.76, and the publication of articles written by 3 authors (n=69; 21.17%) prevailed. It is necessary to publish in the English language, as well as the cooperation between countries, in order increase the collaboration indexes. This would help in the integration of multi-national research communities by the undergraduate.
