Trajan, the Dreamer, and Recklessness in Piers Plowman

Abstract

This essay argues, agreeing with Schmidt against Skeat and Kane-Donaldson, that B.11.158–318 should be attributed to Trajan, and that the corresponding passage in the C text, 12.90–13.128, is probably also spoken by Trajan, and certainly not by Recklessness as in the Schmidt, Pearsall, and Athlone editions.
