This work starts up from the consideration that\nthere is a great amount of accusations made to the\nmedia about the use of positive stereotypes as well\nas negative ones when presenting communications\nabout elderly people. However, in most of the\ncases there are not conclusive evidences. In order\nto highlight those stereotypes, some aspects have\nbeen created and defined, the, so called «stereotype\nframe». With the aim of establish if they are present\nor not in the news about the elderly in the digital\npress in Castilla and Leon whose content is related\nto the elderly people, as this region is one of the\nSpanish eldest regions in Europe. After revising\nthe stereotype literature about the elderly, 21 items\nhave been set that define those five ‘stereotype\naspects’. Later on, through a content analysis,\nwe have tested that the factorial structure of five\naspects initially proposed is reproduced. On the\nother hand, it was proved that the psycho personal\naspect, especially for the elderly women, as well\nas the sociological aspect is more frequent and\nthey both are linked to sensationalist aspects of the\nmedia but it is the economical aspect the one which\nis more deeply associated to elderly’s negative\nimage as linked to aids and social backing.
