The article examines Christoph Bochinger’s thesis that the actual usage of “spirituality” stems from two sources: one a French-Catholic that uses spiritualite in the horizon of a theology of religious orders, and another Anglo-American that is more indefinite or open. In view of the complex history of the termini spiritualitas, spiritualite, and spirituality, it is demonstrated that this view is oversimplistic and misleads the current debate on Spiritual Care.
