This paper examines China–Nigeria political-economic relations since \nthe end of the Cold War using methods and theory of politics and economics. \nSince Nigeria views its relations with China as the driving force for \nits economic growth/development, we assess the extent to which Nigeria’s \ndiplomatic effectiveness and understanding of Imperialism translates into \neconomic growth from its relations with China. Our findings include China’s \ndomination of Nigeria’s economy/polity, through superior economic-diplomacy, \nresulting in differential economic outcomes: for over 27 years while \nChina achieved sustainable economic growth, increased its direct investment \nin foreign aid (loans, grants, technical assistance) to Nigeria, and achieved \nfavorable trade balance with Nigeria; Nigeria’s economy increasingly stagnated/declined, \nexported less, imported more, lost domestic business opportunities \nto China. We describe Nigeria’s response to China’s economic offensive. \nAchievement of trade balance and sustainable economic growth/development \nby Nigeria requires the use of improved economic-diplomacy, based \non sound understanding of globalised neoliberal-capitalism and imperialism
