Abstract

Abstract This chapter presents an up-to-date retrospective on the study of perception metaphors in cognitive linguistics. After a brief introduction to some of the main theoretical tools for the analysis of conceptual metaphor, three main areas are discussed: the scope of perception metaphors, the motivation for perception metaphors, and the lexicalisation of perception metaphors. The chapter ends with some indications for future work in this area.
