It suggests that geography has a dual (Type ‘A and Type ‘B’) structure with an essential tension between the centrifugal forces that split apart Type ‘B’ geography. ‘New’ geographies (as typified by Madingley) occur during short-term convergence phases when centripetal forces are stronger. The case for a ‘Madingley II’ today is raised.
