With the increasing use of satellite positioning techniques, the determination of the position of local geodetic datums in a geocentric coordinate system is becoming important. This position is defined by six quantities: the three translation components, and the three rotation angles. This paper shows how the translation components may be obtained using absolute and relative geoidal heights related to geocentric and nongeocentric ellipsoids. Some results are obtained for the North American 1927 Datum, based upon different pairs of geoids. In addition, the results are compared to those obtained by satellite tracking, and some local components are derived.
