This chapter examines the globalization of the Chinese media from a geopolitical perspective. Chinese companies are becoming increasingly competitive in global markets, making sizeable investments and acquisitions all around the world. Such expansion has been made possible by the information and communication infrastructure that has been put in place in the past decade by Chinese government-supported infrastructural projects. One of the most significant shifts in the global entertainment arena is the acquiring of entertainment properties – both hardware and software – by major Chinese companies. While the international debates about the Chinese internet have focused on censorship-related issues, the Chinese government and its increasingly globalizing cyber corporations have been strengthening their digital imprints across the world. As the United States of America takes pride in an 'America First' attitude, cuts its international aid budget and international broadcasting – broadly following an agenda of 'de-globalization' – China may find more space to promote its version of globalization.
