The essay analyses the main interpretations that I promessi sposi have had in the first fifteen years of the millennium. The success of the novel in Italy and outside Italy constitutes the first stage of the work, which subsequently extends to other critical and interpretative aspects. The article examines the interventions that have reflected around the global meaning of the novel, or have considered the role of the characters or have illustrated ways and techniques of the story.
