This chapter consists of an interview conducted by Roger Hallas with Trisha Ziff, a photographic curator and documentary filmmaker based in Mexico City. Ziff discusses the differing aesthetic, cultural, and economic dynamics of exhibition curation, book editing, and documentary filmmaking that have shaped her career-long engagement with photographic history. Ziff elaborates how her documentary films – Chevolution (2008), The Mexican Suitcase (2011), The Man Who Saw Too Much (2015), and Witkin & Witkin (2017) – work to contest the dominant conceptions of photographic history, especially those that prioritize the discourse of master artists and the aesthetic hierarchies that produce them.
