EnglishThe succession of steps in the Katanga wire drawing process is here precisely described. The questions at stake are: How ancient is the Katanga wire drawing process? Was it already practiced at the time of the richer Upemba burials (10th-13th century AD) and was the wire of the wire-jewellery of those burials made by this process? Some of it is of very thin gauge and spirally coiled on fiber core... just like the final wire produced by the Katanga process. Is that an indication that the 10th-13th century Upemba wire was also drawn? Answers may come from laboratory observations of both ethnographic and archaeological wires.
