This text examines the international circulation of visual arts produced in Colombia, focusing on the presence of works and artists in Paris during the 19th century. This movement outside of the frontiers of the emerging country is part of the efforts in national promotion that Colombian travelers assumed on their own due to the absence of an official policy aimed at constructing an image of Colombia abroad. Here, we outline a chronological narrative of the relation that these agents established with France through the contrast between the journey to Paris of artworks by the colonial artist Gregorio Vásquez (1835), with the visits to this same city by Alberto Urdaneta (1887-1881) and Epifanio Garay (1882-1887).
