“Tears on the Flowers” Worldwide Natural Experiments of Art Healing

Abstract

Abstract This is an introductory article to the special issue of the journal dealing with COVID-19. It explores how the pandemic underscores the interdependence of the world community and the role of artistic expression as a spontaneous response to the crisis. The global presentation of these creations on the Internet offers an unprecedented natural experiment which invites close examination of the nature of art healing and its life-affirming role in transforming a threat to all people. The expressions offer what the author, an originator of art-based research, decribes as “art evidence” which speaks convincingly for itself. Artistic expression is presented as an eco-system of reciprocal relations that makes new life during difficult times.
