This paper discusses the need for educators to practice graphic design conventions when creating classroom documents. An analysis of various instructor-created documents reveals common design trends, many of which mimic academic writing styles such as that of the Modern Language Association. Unfortunately, these design approaches do not resonate with today's traditional college students, who belong to Generation Z. Instead, educators should consider ways to embrace graphic design conventions for these documents to improve communication with their students.
