An increased awareness in recent years of the impact of quality on the marketplace has renewed interest in the field of statistical process control. The result of this interest has been an increase in the development and analysis of process monitoring schemes. In this paper we discuss certain methods of designing control charts for the process mean based upon the probability of incorrectly concluding a shift in the process mean has occurred and adjustment is necessary, i.e. the probability of a Type I error, α. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
