Representasi Kesadaran Budaya Lokal Perupa dalam Penciptaan Karya Seni Rupa dan Desain Era Kontemporer

Abstract

Representation of Artist Local Cultural Awareness in the Creation of Art and Design Works Contemporary EraABSTRACTThe contemporary era has not bound yet by rigidity and prison regulations, but the works are rather started from traditional roots. On the other hand, they miss the creation and innovation of novelty. The contemporary phenomenon in art and design is not merely aesthetic exploration. However, it is a part of the artists' personal experience influenced by social and cultural situations that build the context with the visual representations they delve into. A representation can be in the form of cultural practices, artifacts, or concepts. This research aims to focus on knowing to what extent the representation of local cultural values in work, the ideology that influences artists to choose their work manner by growing with local culture in the contemporary era, and the forms and meanings of the artists' works. This study used a qualitative naturalistic research method by collecting data from natural settings with a textual, contextual approach. The results showed that the artists chose cultural awareness as the perspective, choice, and birth of artists' works by asserting their positions as a bridge between diversities to build a dialogue with the tastes of life around them, namely cosmological culture. Representations can be formed by traditions and influenced by other cultures; however, they have a "local" character, so they have roots. Representations of local awareness in works can be presented through the Reactualization of Traditions: Re-Imagination, Recording of Traditions, Symbolic Meanings, and Counter-Traditions.
