Just a few years ago, the Information Highway was bypassing the majority of older adults. Today, however, the largest growing segment of navigators on the World Wide Web (Web) are individuals over the age of 60 (U.S. Department of Commerce, 1999). This should not be surprising because systematic research has consistently shown that older adults have interest in computers and can easily learn to use them (see Charness, Bosman, Kelley, & Mottram, 1996; Czaja, 1997; Morrell & Echt, 1996, 1997; Rogers & Fisk, 2000 for reviews of these studies). They are also highly motivated and interested in learning how to use the Web for a number of reasons. One of their major goals in using the Web is to find information about health issues concerning themselves, family members, and friends (Morrell, Mayhorn, & Bennett, 2000).
